2017 – 2018

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS “HIGH 5”

1. Be positive.

2. Be engaged.

3. Show Respect.

4. Keep your hands to yourself.

5. Be prepared.

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM

Enter quietly and orderly.

Sit in your assigned seat immediately.

Gather classroom materials (folder, pencil, Chromebook) in a TIMELY manner.

Begin and finish bell-work.

Talking should be limited during this time.

COMING TO ATTENTION

When Mrs. Finnegan holds up her hand, it signals that class is about to start.  We will begin each class by reciting the classroom’s “High 5’s.”

SEEK HELP OR SPEAK WITHOUT INTERRUPTING OTHERS

Quietly raise your hand and wait patiently for Mrs. Finnegan to call on you. I may ask you to put your hand down if I or another student is speaking.  I want you listening to what is being said at all times.  After someone is finished speaking, I will call on you.

Do not interrupt others by calling out or waving hands around.

MOVING AROUND THE ROOM

Using the pencil sharpener – Please try to use the pencil sharpener before class begins.  You may use it during independent work time, ONE AT A TIME. Do not disrupt your classmates on the way to the sharpener.  This privilege will be taken away if it is abused.

Throwing away trash – NO “TRASKETBALL!” Trash should only be thrown away at the end of class. DO NOT ask permission to get up and throw something away.  It is a waste of valuable class time.  The area around your desk must be clean when you leave.

Getting tissue /Using hand sanitizer– You may get a tissue or use the hand sanitizer if you need to during independent work time, ONE AT A TIME. Do not disrupt your classmates on the way to the tissue box.  Please step outside in the hallway if you need to blow your nose.

Completing your assignment – After you have completed your assignment, you may turn it into the appropriate location or  “TURN IN” through Google Classroom (depending on the assignment).   If you are caught up on ALL of your work, you may ask permission to sit in the “reading spot”.  Be aware, though, that the reading spot is for all students. I will do my best to see to it that all students have the opportunity to sit there and quietly read. If it is not your turn at the reading spot, you are expected to stay in your seat and read or write quietly.  DO NOT disrespect classmates who are still working.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

Homework will be assigned no more than once a week, unless classwork is not completed. All homework assignments must be turned in the day that they are due.  NO LATE WORK unless you have made arrangements with Mrs. Finnegan. All homework will serve as practice on specific skills and have academic value.

MAKE-UP WORK

According to the Student Handbook, you have one day to complete missed assignments for each day you are absent. For example, if you are absent one day, you have one day to complete and turn in your work.  If you miss two days, you have two days to complete and turn in your work, etc. Please do your best to be proactive regarding makeup work.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

CHROMEBOOKS

Chromebooks and/or headphones DO NOT belong to you. They belong to your school and you are able to use them to help enhance your learning experience. Each student will be assigned a number and be responsible for the care of the computer.  You are also responsible for reporting any malfunctions of the device.  If you do not report it, you may be held responsible for the misuse.  In short, “you break it, you buy it.”

Inappropriate use of Chromebooks is strickly prohibited.  If you choose to not use this privilege wisely, it will be taken away.

ALL POLICIES IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK WILL BE ENFORCED.

Classroom Procedures are subject to change to better accommodate students and learning.
